This project was inspired by the moment when something breaks and reorganizes into a new state. A conscious transition between organic and geometric, hard and soft, light and dark. Atmospheres of rising light and fractured ice formations served as visual references.
By observing light interacting with different materials, I began prototyping with linen and copper yarns on the TC2. Variations in yarn density, as well as reflection and texture, created tensions of contrast, transparency, and light behaviour that I wanted to investigate further.
I developed the drawing for the jacquardwoven piece through abstract painting and translated it into weave structures. A key aspect of the process was developing bindings that reflect in different ways.
AURA NOVA explores how light can be captured within textiles.
The work is made on the TC2 loom.
MATERIAL: Copper, stainless steel, and linen; cotton warp
